Roermond (Maasplassen - Willemsroute - Southern Netherlands Route)

        

Roermond is 2 sailing hours away from our home base (Northbound - 1 lock). Roermond is located on the banks of the Meuse and has several harbors.

Ongoing: Roermond hosts the largest outlet shopping center in Europe. Almost daily, there are interesting events here. In addition, there are restaurants, brasseries, terraces, ice cream parlors, cinemas, and more, all within walking distance of the harbor (Nautilus).

  • Every Saturday from 09:00 to 17:00, market in the city center, within walking distance of Nautilus harbor.
  • May 5, 2025: Liberation Festival (walking distance from Nautilus marina)
  • June 8, 2025: Art Market "Fête des Arts" (Roerkade and city center), organized by Kiwanis Roermond, proceeds go to charity.
  • June 13-19, 2025: Spring Fair Roermond City Center, spread over various squares and streets in the city center.
  • June 21, 2025: Taptoe Roermond - free music spectacle on Roermond's market square.
  • July 31 - August 3, 2025: Solar Festival Maasplassen - Annual music festival featuring various genres.
  • August 3, 2025: Oldtimer Festival, Munsterplein Roermond - 13:00 to 17:00 - Vintage cars, motorcycles, and scooters.
  • August 15, 2025: Roerdelta Concert - City center and Roerkade Roermond - 21:00 to 23:00.
  • September 6, 2025: Roermond Annual Market - Art, Antique, and Flea Market in the city center.
  • September 20, 2025: Lantern Parade Maasplassen - Over 100 illuminated and decorated boats on the Maasplassen - fireworks finale.
Maastricht  (Willemsroute - Belgium Route)

Maastricht is accessible via the Juliana Canal (2 locks) in about 5 sailing hours. A historic city with international allure, Maastricht offers a mix of medieval buildings, cozy squares, and modern flair, with a rich tradition, artistic ambiance, and refined gastronomy.

Maasmechelen (Willemsroute)

        

Comfortable passer-by dock, directly at "Maasmechelen Village" and one of the access points to: "the Hoge Kempen National Park" Various cinemas, restaurants, and attractions within walking distance.

  • Terhills Park (whole season): Nature and adventure for the whole family, within walking distance of the passer-by dock.
  • Cable Park: (April - October) Wake-board cable - Beach bar - Beach restaurant.
  • Hoge Kempen National Park: Largest nature park in the Benelux - hiking - cycling - mountain biking - impressive nature and views.
  • Maasmechelen Village: Beautifully maintained "Outlet Shopping" with nice restaurants and cafes.
  • Elaisa Wellness: Unique Wellness in the middle of the nature park. Saunas, relaxation rooms, steam cabins, massages in an incredibly beautiful setting.
Bocholt

        

Comfortable passer-by dock within walking distance from the city center. Large department store 100 meters from the dock, restaurants, nice terraces, and bakery within walking distance.

Weekly market day: Every Wednesday from 14:00 to 18:00 at the town square near the church in Bocholt (500 meters from the passer-by dock).

  • Brewery Museum: the largest private brewery museum in the world. Open every day, but prior contact is desired (via website).
  • Sezoensrally Bocholt: Annual spectacular rally (Belgian Championship) with the rally center at Bocholt's town square.
  • Annual fair: Small fair on 14 April 2025 - Large fair on 04 August 2025.
  • Classic Car meeting: Every first Friday evening of the month (from May to September).
Weert

        

Comfortable visitor's marina directly in the city center. Berths between mooring poles (no finger piers).

Weekly market day: Saturday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM in the entire city center (walking distance from the marina).

  • Flea market with fair Weert: 20/04/2025 - Weert city center - Antiques and Curiosities
  • De IJzeren Man: Nature park and recreation area with various activities, within walking distance of the visitor's marina.
  • Water ski track "De IJzeren Man": Located directly in the De IJzeren Man recreation area.
  • Bospop Weert: 11 - 12 and 13 July 2025. Festival at the outskirts of Weert featuring international artists, see website for info.
  • Weert Fair: From 26 September to 01 October, directly at the visitor's marina.
Venlo

        

The city of Venlo is located along the Maas River and has two harbors. The "City Harbor" near the city center (around 30 berths) and the marina of Watersportvereniging "De Maas," 4 kilometers from the city center. Venlo is a vibrant city close to the German border.

Weekly market: Wednesday and Saturday at Monseigneur Nolensplein, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

s'Hertoghenbosch

          

Den Bosch is a beautiful historic city with a rich past. The city features stunning historical buildings, several museums, and a vibrant Burgundian atmosphere.
The harbor we recommend is WSV De Viking, located on the outskirts of the city. In 's Hertoghenbosch, there is always something to experience every day: visit Den Bosch

Weekly market days: Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday at the central market square in the city. 

Heusden

        

The historic fortified town of Heusden is located along the Maas River. The town is fully restored and a protected historical site. It features several harbors where visitors are welcome.

Weekly market day: Thursday afternoon from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM.

Liège

        

Liège has a well-equipped and comfortable marina within walking distance of the city's historic center. Liège offers a lot in terms of gastronomy, history, and culture. The main language spoken in Liège is French, and English is limited.

Weekly market: Every Sunday morning along the Maas River quay: La Batte, one of Belgium's largest and oldest markets.

  • Liège - Bastogne - Liège: Annual professional cycling race on Saturday, April 26, 2025. Race finish at 4:30 PM in Liège.
  • 15th August Festivities: From August 11 to 17 in Liège city center: flea markets, street theater, concerts, fairs, folkloric processions, etc.
  • St. Paul's Cathedral: One of Belgium's most impressive cathedrals, featuring a unique treasure room.
  • Aquarium - Museum: 50 aquarium tanks, a collection of 250 different marine species, and a heritage museum showcasing zoological treasures.
  • Historical walks: Liège has experienced various tumultuous periods and wars in the past. Numerous guided walks provide insight into this history.
Namur

        

The city of Namur is located at the confluence of the Sambre and Meuse rivers and is home to one of the largest fortresses in Europe: "The Citadel of Namur". Like Liège, Namur is located in the French-speaking part of Belgium, where French is predominantly spoken, with very limited English and no German. 

Weekly market days: Friday afternoon from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM - Station Square. Saturday morning from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM in the city center. 

  • Visit the Citadel of Namur: This fortress is well worth a visit, featuring underground tunnels, a cable car, and a historical visitor center.
  • May 29-31, 2025: Festival of Fairground Arts: Circus, theater, music, and cabaret in the center of Namur. 
  • June 11-15, 2025: Provençal Market: Daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM - A market showcasing regional products and specialties from Provence.
  • July 5-31, 2025: Namur Fair (Foire de Namur) in "Rue du Quatrième Génie"
  • September 12-22, 2025: Fêtes de Wallonie: Folklore and tradition in the center of Namur.
Dinant  

        

Dinant, the city of Adolphe Sax, the inventor of the saxophone. The Leffe brewery, stately mansions, and a citadel overlooking the city are unique attractions. Dinant offers a comfortable dock in the city center, directly opposite the citadel. 

Weekly market day: Friday from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Place Albert I-er. 

  • Visit the Citadel of Dinant: 100 meters above the Meuse. The citadel houses a historical and weapons museum.
  • July 25-27, 2025: Dinant Jazz Festival: Held at the domain of the Abbey of Leffe.
  • August 15, 2025: International Bathtub Race on the Meuse.
  • Adolphe Sax: Visit the "House of Mr. Sax," the inventor of the saxophone.
  • Le Merveilleuse: One of Belgium's most beautiful caves, discovered in 1904, within walking distance of the docking area. 
  • Leffe Brewery: Visit the Leffe Brewery; reservations are required via the Dinant tourist office (located next to the docking area).
